What is the Summer Food Program?

SHH! Don’t tell this Myrtle Creek muncher that her sandwich bun is WHOLE WHEAT!

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is one of USDA’s child nutrition programs. The SFSP provides funding for healthy meals at approved Summer Food Program sites.

Unlike other USDA child nutrition programs, SFSP meals are free for all children and young adults (ages 1-18).

No income limits, no paperwork & no documents are needed for children to share free SFSP meals!

All children are welcome, regardless of income, residency, or school enrollment. No ID is needed; parents and children don’t need to provide any personal information whatsoever.

Many Summer Food sites also provide fun, safe, healthy activities for children in addition to serving healthy meals. Summer Food sites work with the USDA through the Oregon Dept. of Education to provide free food, but each site develops its own program, depending upon available resources. Therefore sites may vary in when meals are available and whether and what activities are provided.
